Planning Technology Into a Property Development Before the Walls Were Finished

The Challenge

The developer contacted Curly IT at the beginning of a property renovation/development project, specifically so the technology could be planned before the property was finished. The core problem this solves is a familiar one: cabling, WiFi and AV infrastructure are far harder, messier and more expensive to add once walls are plastered, floors are down and decoration is complete.

What Curly IT Planned

Because Curly IT was involved from the early stages, cabling routes, access point locations and a central plant room could be planned around the building itself, rather than working around finished rooms afterwards. Structured data cabling was run back to a central plant room, giving the property one organised point where all cabling, networking and AV equipment could be managed.

WiFi access points were planned across the floors of the property rather than relying on a single router, and aerial/data points were run to the main rooms. Audio was planned in at the same stage — KEF ceiling speakers wired back to the plant room and driven by Sonos amplification — so that once decoration was complete, the finished result would be discreet, with no visible cabling or retrofitted equipment.

The Installation

Work completed as part of the project included:

• ✓Cabling routed back to a central plant room
• ✓Sonos amplification

Outdoor WiFi coverage was also planned as a later phase of the project, building on the same cabling and plant-room approach.
