WiFi Installation in Edinburgh That Actually Works
Reliable WiFi throughout your home, not just in the room where the router happens to be.
I install and improve home WiFi networks across Edinburgh, including wired wireless access points, mesh WiFi systems, Cat6 network cabling and complete home network setups.
Whether you're struggling with dead spots in an older Edinburgh property or want a properly installed network throughout a large home, I'll work out the right solution and install it properly.
Poor WiFi? You don't have to put up with it
WiFi problems are often blamed on the broadband provider, but the connection coming into your property is only part of the story. The way your network is designed and how WiFi is distributed throughout your home makes a huge difference. I regularly help with problems such as:
- ✕WiFi disappearing in certain rooms
- ✕Poor coverage upstairs, downstairs or in extensions
- ✕Video calls freezing or dropping out
- ✕Streaming constantly buffering
- ✕Slow WiFi despite having fast broadband
- ✕Garden rooms or home offices with little or no signal
- ✕Mesh systems that don't perform as expected
- ✕WiFi extenders that have made things worse rather than better
- ✕New homes or renovations that need a proper network from the start
The aim isn't simply to make the WiFi a little better.
It's to build a network you don't have to think about.
Professional Home WiFi Installation
Every property is different, so I don't use the same solution everywhere. I'll look at your property, how you use the internet and where coverage is actually needed before recommending the best setup. Depending on the property, that might involve improving what you already have or installing a completely new WiFi system.
Wireless Access Point Installation
For larger homes or properties with thick walls, properly positioned wireless access points are often the best solution. Instead of relying on one router to reach the whole property, multiple access points provide strong WiFi where it's actually needed.
Where possible, I install wired access points connected back to your main network, giving you a much more reliable connection than basic wireless extenders. I install systems from trusted manufacturers including TP-Link Omada and Ubiquiti UniFi, depending on what best suits the property and budget.
Mesh WiFi Installation
Mesh WiFi can be a great solution when installing network cabling isn't practical. Multiple WiFi units work together to provide better coverage throughout the property while keeping everything on one network.
I'll make sure the units are positioned correctly and configured properly, rather than simply plugging them in wherever there happens to be a socket.
Cat6 & Ethernet Network Cabling
For the best possible reliability, nothing beats a wired connection. I can install Cat6 network cabling to connect access points, computers, televisions, games consoles, home offices and other network equipment.
Cabling can also provide the backbone for a professional WiFi installation, allowing access points to be positioned exactly where they're needed.
Where appropriate, installations can include:
Who this is for
Older and larger Edinburgh homes
Thick stone walls, converted properties, multiple floors, extensions and long layouts can all seriously reduce wireless coverage. A more powerful router isn't always the answer — in many homes, the best solution is to distribute the network properly using strategically positioned access points or a professionally installed mesh system.
Home offices
If you work from home, unreliable WiFi quickly becomes more than an annoyance. Video meetings, cloud applications, VPN connections and large file transfers all need a stable connection — using wired Ethernet, dedicated access points, mesh WiFi or improved router configuration.
Garden rooms, extensions & outbuildings
Getting reliable internet into a garden office, extension or outbuilding can be difficult with standard WiFi equipment. Depending on the property, I can install a wired network connection, dedicated access point or suitable wireless solution.
How the Installation Works
A clear, straightforward process from first look to a network that's tested and working.
I assess the property
I'll look at the layout of your home, construction of the walls, number of floors, location of your existing broadband equipment and where you actually need good WiFi.
I recommend the right solution
That might mean adjusting your existing setup, installing mesh WiFi, running network cabling or fitting dedicated wireless access points. I'll explain the options clearly before anything is installed.
Everything is installed properly
Equipment is positioned correctly and configured for performance, security and reliability. Where cabling is required, I'll keep the installation as neat and discreet as reasonably possible.
I test the network
Once everything is installed, I'll test coverage and connectivity throughout the areas that matter to you. Phones, laptops, televisions and other devices can also be checked before I leave.
More Than Just Better WiFi
A professionally installed home network can improve much more than browsing the internet. It can provide a reliable connection for:
Already Bought Equipment?
That's fine. If you've already purchased a mesh system, access points or networking equipment, I can install and configure it for you.
I'll also tell you if the equipment you already have is suitable, rather than trying to sell you something you don't need.
Common questions
Do I need new equipment?
What's better: mesh WiFi or wired access points?
Can you install Ethernet or Cat6 cabling?
Can you install WiFi throughout a large house?
My broadband provider says everything is fine. Why is my WiFi still bad?
What if the problem is my broadband provider?
